When I became a mom, it was hard at first to get back into my skincare routine, let alone doing my makeup. When the pandemic forced the entire world to go on lockdown, there really wasn’t much reason to go out and put on makeup, except when we had to bring our daughter to the pedia. Even then, it would be a feat if I managed to put on tinted sunscreen, lip and cheek tint, and did my eyebrows.

In the few years since the pandemic eased and we were able to go out, meet up with people, and travel again, I’ve managed to slowly but surely get back to doing my makeup. It’s still much simpler than how I used to do my makeup before I became a mom, but I actually use a lot more products now, especially because I work again. I also am back to trying different cosmetics.

Still, as a mom, I have certain requirements when it comes to choosing makeup:

1) They have to be compact so I can bring them with me in my tiny makeup pouch that I squeeze into my bag that’s full of mommy essentials because sometimes, I don’t have enough time to do my makeup completely before we have to step out of the house, so I need to be able to bring my makeup and do my face on the go.

2) They have to be easy to apply, also because I either have to rush to do it at home or while in a moving vehicle.

3) They have to be affordable. Instead of buying expensive skincare, makeup, clothes, and accessories, I now have to be more wais and save where I can because most of our income now goes to our daughter’s needs and tuition, which is extremely expensive nowadays. There are so many good yet affordable products in the market anyway.

One of my recent discoveries that meet all of the above are products from Dazzle Me, a makeup brand that specializes in providing high-quality affordable makeup products. It’s targeted to a younger generation, hence the pricing that’s all below PHP200, but because I’m a girl mom, I’m naturally drawn to all things cute and pink and purple now, haha. Below are the products I’ve tried from the brand:

Get A Grip! Matte Fix Setting Spray (PHP199 for 60ml)

Dazzle Me setting spray - trixiereyna

One step I’ve added back into my makeup routine is using a makeup setting spray because after I do my makeup, there’s really no time to retouch, sometimes not even my lipstick. Their matte setting spray with fine mist provides refreshing oil control and helps make my makeup last long. Its fast-drying agent instantly locks makeup in place for a fresh look that lasts all day.

It even has skin-loving ingredients, like 4D Centella extract that helps balance skin’s moisture and oil levels, reduces excess oil, and gently fights acne; Arbutin extract that brightens skin tone, improves dullness, tightens appearance of pores, and firms your skin; and Squalane that keeps skin hydrated and moisturized by locking in water and preventing dryness.

Skin Fellow Nourishing Lip Sleeping Mask (PHP169)

Dazzle Me lip mask - trixiereyna

This is my favorite Dazzle Me product. I started using it when my lips got so dry and chapped, they started peeling and bleeding. I couldn’t even eat, talk, or smile properly because of the pain. Desperate, I applied this on my lips overnight, and lo and behold, they were better the next day! I noticed that it even made my lips soft and improved my lip color and appearance of lip lines with regular use, as it’s made with shea butter extract and rosehip oil for deep nourishment, as well as grape seed extract that’s rich in Vitamin C. It’s formulated without talc, mineral oil, or alcohol.

There are multiple ways to use it: Apply a thick layer before bed for overnight repair and nourishment; apply a thin layer for daily use or whenever lips feel dry; as a lip primer when applied before putting on lipstick; and as lip sheen when applied over lip color to add subtle shine and create dewy-looking lips. It has a sweet coffee flavor that’s weird to me for bedtime but a welcome smell during the day.

24/7 Wonderfullip Serum (PHP149)

Trixiereyna - dazzle me- 247-Wonderfullip-Serum

I’m now obsessed with keeping my lips soft and not chapped, so I use this multipurpose lip topper and treatment that conditions lips, brightens lip color, and reduces the appearance of lip lines while providing lasting moisture. It also has grape seed extract that helps protect your lips from harmful free radicals; Rosa rugosa (rose) oil that prevents and heals chapped lips; pomegranate extract that nourishes lips and restores that natural-looking pink color; and Jojoba seed oil that locks hydration and gives a natural plumping effect on the lips.

You can use it as a lip primer when you apply it before a matte lip product to prime the lips, or as a lip topper over matte lipstick to create a juicy, glossy lip. You can also use it during the day to give a subtle color on the lips and prevent drying, and at bedtime to heal dry and chapped lips overnight.

Misty Matte Lip Cream (PHP179)

With consistently soft lips, I’m more confident to wear matte lippies like this lip cream that gives a soft-blur finish without drying your lips. It delivers full pigment and sets to a soft matte finish without emphasizing lip lines. While it does look matte, lips are enveloped with hyaluronic acid, jojoba seed oil, and shea butter for a non-sticky and non-drying feel. The best part is, it stays on for long, as it’s mask-proof (a requirement for any lippie I use now), smudge-proof, and water-proof.

There are six shades to choose from: Misty is a bare nude, Encounter is salmon nude, Heartbeat is brick red, Poppy is sunkissed coral, Rose Manor is muted rosewood (my pick), and Desert Sunset is desert brown.

Dazzle Me Heart-Melt Creamy Liquid Blush (PHP149)

I can’t leave the house without blush, and I’m currently road-testing this buildable hybrid formula that seamlessly blends into skin for a long-lasting flush of color. It turns from liquid to creamy texture when applied, and it stays longer than powder blush. It creates a subtle or vividly flushed look without caking. It comes in three shades: Sweet Pink, a soft pink (my fave); Cheeky Orange, a soft coral; and Flirty Peach, a warm peach.

Dazzle Me Lock & Pop Volumizing and Curling Mascara (PHP199)

Dazzle Me Mascara - trixiereyna

Thanks to my naturally long lashes, I rarely wear mascara, but when I do, it has to be water-proof, sweat-proof, smudge-proof—all of which are characteristics of this mascara that curls, volumizes, and keeps lashes lifted all day. I like that it doesn’t clump, too.

Dazzle Me Attack On Sun! Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++++ (PHP199)

Dazzle Me Sunscreen - trixiereyna

If there’s one skincare product I never forget to apply, it’s sunscreen, and I like how this comes in a pocket-friendly size at such a budget-friendly price. It feels light on skin, easy to apply, and absorbs quickly for a radiant finish with no white cast. It’s nonsticky too. It’s supposed to provide broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays for up to 12.5 hours, so I don’t have to reapply all day.

In case you need a refresher, UVA is light from the sun with a fairly long wavelength that causes skin to look older (remember: A—aging). Meanwhile, UVB is a solar wavelength proven to damage the skin (to remember: B—burn).

Dazzle Me is available online in Lazada, TikTok, and Shopee, and in over 140 Watsons and Robinsons Department Stores nationwide For more information, follow Dazzle Me on Instagram (@dazzleme_ph) and TikTok (@dazzleme.beauty.ph).
