My love for lip and cheek tints go way back when I was in high school or college, when a local brand first introduced me to this particular makeup product on its shelves. I could afford it with my student allowance, so I bought one, and I’ve always had at least one tiny bottle of it in my makeup stash since.

In my late 20s to mid-30s, I became obsessed with highly pigmented blush and lipsticks, especially mattes, so lip & cheek tints took a backseat. But it came back with a vengeance and stayed in my makeup kit for good when I became pregnant in 2019, for a variety of reasons:

  • It’s multi-use and easy to apply and blend, even on the move.
  • It stayed put all day, even when I started wearing a mask, long before the pandemic hit, to protect myself and my baby from pollution and exposure to viruses.
  • It gave me a flattering, naturally-flushed look.
  • They don’t dry my lips like matte lipsticks do.
  • They don’t make me breakout like other powder blush do.
  • I don’t need to bring a separate lipstick and blush, so it lessens the makeup I have to bring in my bag, to make way for baby essentials that soon took over my purse space.
  • It doesn’t create unflattering streaks on my face when it’s humid, when I’m sweating, or when I tear up.

In fact, right before I gave birth in 2020, my OB told me to apply my makeup before I was brought to the delivery room. I long stashed my waterproof eyeliner, brow pencil, and lip and cheek tint in my go bag, so in less than two minutes, I was able to look decent and glowing for my childbirth photos, hahaha.

As a new mom in the midst of the pandemic, I could only keep my lip & cheek tint, eyeliner, and eyebrow pencil in my everyday makeup stash because of the limited time I had to do my face; the limited space I had in my bag for makeup (no more makeup kit, just those three tiny products); and that’s the only thing that would not smudge on my mask or my baby, who’s always snuggled up to me.

I continue to wear a mask to this day, so the lip & cheek tint remains as my go-to makeup product. Especially in this extreme heat, it’s the only makeup that I can stand to apply on my face because it feels light and refreshing—especially my two new finds from our favorite OG F-Beauty brand Ever Bilena Cosmetics, which almost every Filipina grew up with and that we continue to love for the past 40 years.

EB Water Tint

Ever Bilena recently released their Water Tint with 4x Hyaluronic Acid (3ml) that comes in six wonderfully flattering shades for every Filipina beauty: peachy Sleek; baked peach Mirthful; brick-coral Remarkable; reddish Gleaming; and my two favorites—Roseate, which gives me a nice ruby wine-like flush; and Vivacious, a flirty pink.

Because it’s infused with 4x Hyaluronic Acid, my lips and cheeks feel extra hydrated and supple, even in this intense heat. They feel comfortable and light on my lips and skin. And at PHP195, I can hoard all shades and reapply as often as I need! Considering the price, it’s well-pigmented with just one swipe and highly blendable. It’s really very Ever Bilena to create makeup that doesn’t break the bank without compromising quality.

Now, I have another fave for days when I really do not have the time to reapply any makeup—it has to stay put all day, no matter what I do. That’s when I use another lip & cheek product: Spotlight Hydra Tint (PHP395).

Spotlight Hydra Tint 2

In case you didn’t know, Spotlight is a cult F-beauty favorite from Ever Bilena Cosmetics. It’s the company’s high-end makeup brand that pioneers innovation and lifestyle makeup products—from cutting-edge formulations to sustainable choices, challenging international makeup brands and keeping up with the latest beauty trends.

I love how Hydra Tint, in particular, drenches lips with rich hydration and a stunning burst of color with one even, effortless application using its doe-foot applicator. Its formula is infused with moisturizers and hydrating agents like 4x Hyaluronic Acid and glycerin to deliver intense moisture for plumper looking lips.

It’s also multi-use, meaning you can use it on both your lips and cheeks. It gives off a natural-looking flush and long-lasting stain for days when you just need your lip and cheek color to stay put all day—even under your mask—because you just don’t have time for a retouch. I really love how long the stain lasts on my lips and doesn’t dry them, even in this extreme Philippine heat.

It’s available in five shades that flatter Pinay skintones: Flow, Drench, Drops, Dewy, and Soak—the latter being my favorite. If you need a quick guide to what shade works best for you, Dewy and Flow are best for cool tones; Drench and Drops are best for warm tone and olive tones; and Flow and Soak are great for neutral tones (which explains why Flow is my second favorite).

EB Water Tint and Spotlight Hydra Tint are both available in Watsons and SM Beauty Store, as well as Shopee, Lazada, Tiktok.
