If you’ve been a fan of this local beauty brand, you’ll find that the actress’ collab with them seems different from its other products—starting with the packaging.

I’ve been a fan of homegrown beauty brand Happy Skin’s skin-caring makeup since they launched, especially of their long-wearing, highly pigmented Shut Up & Kiss Me Lippies that come in such colorful, beautifully designed packaging and flirty, quirky product names. To illustrate: First Kiss, Summer Crush, My First Time, Valentine Kiss, and The Morning After are just some of my favorite shades over the years.

So the first thing I noticed when I laid eyes on actress Kathryn Bernardo’s makeup collaboration with Happy Skin is its minimalist, very millennial-friendly packaging. And that’s just one of the things that makes it different from the main brand, since Generation Happy Skin turns out to be an all-new diffusion cosmetics line—meaning, a secondary line of products that retails at a more budget-friendly price.

Minimalist packaging, simple shade names

According to the brand’s representatives, the six-piece inaugural Generation Happy Skin collection—compared to its big sister Happy Skin Cosmetics—showcases more dressed-down packaging and straightforward product names because it’s inspired by Kathryn’s personality: authentic and accessible. Kathryn has reportedly always led her personal and celebrity life with authenticity, keeping herself grounded in who she is: confident in her simplicity.

As the brand reps elaborate further, Generation Happy Skin speaks to a new breed of women who believe that good skin is a priority and who are after effortless, everyday makeup that allow them to showcase this. “You can be a college student or a working mom—all kinds of people fall under Generation Happy Skin,” explains Kathryn. “We all want something that’s easy to use and effortless. You don’t need a lot to look beautiful.”

The collection took two years to materialize, with no detail left unnoticed by Kathryn. She was highly involved when it came to deciding on the packaging’s pastel color palette, and she personally wanted the shade names—like Freedom, Courage, and Love—to inspire others to stay true to who they are. “I like being simple. I like doing my makeup, but I don’t like changing my face,” Kathryn explains. “That’s why I want my fans to learn how to also feel and look beautiful without looking too made up.”

The line has products to do a complete everyday look

A non-negotiable for Kathryn for this collaboration: That every makeup product would be influenced by her personal beauty routine—products that she would be proud to use and even recommend herself. It reportedly wasn’t enough for her to create formulas and packaging that just work—they had to work well. Generation Happy Skin, like all of Happy Skin’s products, are created in beauty capitals like Korea and Taiwan. “With Generation Happy Skin, I know that I can look beautiful and [the makeup] won’t damage my skin. That’s hard to find in makeup nowadays,” Kathryn says.

Happy Skin worked closely with Kathryn to turn her dream products into a reality. Kathryn diligently tested all the formulas and shades, and even wore them to different shoots and show tapings. Based on her direction, Generation Happy Skin included a natural-finish powder foundation, a long-lasting matte lipstick, a highly-pigmented lip & cheek tint, a super blendable powder blush, a volumizing mascara, and a universal brow liner.

Accessible to all budgets—and skin tones

Kathryn wanted every shade in Generation Happy Skin to flatter a wide range of skin tones. “Problem ko before was finding the perfect makeup for me because I’m morena. I’m very proud that this collaboration with Happy Skin is perfect for different skin tones, including morena girls,” says Kathryn.

Another essential for her: that the products had accessible price points, so that more of her fans can get their hands on the new line. After securing ace formulas, both Kathryn and Happy Skin made sure not a single product in Generation Happy Skin would be priced above P499, as you’ll see below:

My Lips But Better Ultra Matte Lippie (P399) – This is my favorite product from the entire line. All shades have good pigments with a trendy matte finish. It doesn’t last on my lips as long as my favorite Happy Skin lippies, but it does hydrate for long, thanks to Concentrated Sunflower Seed Oil that helps replenish moisture and prevent your puckers from cracking and chapping. It glides on lips with good color pay-off and it’s totally wearable everyday.

Kathryn’s favorite shade is the peachy-brown Spunk. Mine are the nude pink Authenticity, the berry red Wonder, and the deep red Moxie—in that order. The fifth shade available is Courage, a nude brown.

Kiss & Bloom Water Lip & Cheek Tint (P299) – This no-mess, water-based tint gives a long-lasting color to lips and cheeks. It’s highly pigmented with a natural watercolor finish that’s totally buildable. In all her shoots, Kathryn reportedly applies her own lip tint. Her rule? A little goes a long way, and always make sure to blend for a natural finish.

Available in four unique shades—Dainty (wearable red), Serene (pinkish red), Fearless (deep red), and Prim (brownish red)it gives a sheer but buildable color that perfectly complements all skin tones.  It has Green Tea Extract, an antioxidant, and Hops Flower Extract that helps keep skin smooth and well-nourished.

Stay Fresh Weightless Pressed Powder in Light Beige, Medium Beige, & Natural Beige (P499) – This lightweight, buildable face powder can cover imperfections while leaving a fresh, natural finish. It has Concentrated Sunflower Seed Oil to help strengthen and moisturize skin. Kathryn wears the Medium Beige shade.

The compact comes with a sponge in a separate hygienic compartment for easy application and retouch sessions. A few pats are all you need to help reduce shine and oiliness.

Kath-HappySkin-12

Instant Glow Longwear Powder Blush (P399) – It’s formulated to be long-wearing and seamlessly blendable to help you achieve a radiant and natural-looking flush on your cheeks. It keeps skin well-hydrated with its star ingredient Sunflower Seed Oil.

Extra Drama Volumizing Mascara (P499) – It comes in black to give you dramatic yet natural-looking lashes. Mascara is the one makeup product Kathryn can’t live without. It was only after three sample passes that she gave the go signal to produce her dream formula.

Kath-HappySkin-19

Its volumizing and clump-free Korean-made formula with Sunflower Seed Oil gives added nutrition to your lashes. It supposedly helps prevent lashes from thinning and falling out. The sweat-proof formula is safe for sensitive eyes and suited for oily lids–this mascara can keep lashes curled and pretty all day.

Kath-HappySkin-15

Perfect Brows Long-Lasting Liquid Pen (P399) – It lets you easily achieve natural looking brows with its universal brown color. Its light, feather-like pen brush helps draw, shape, and fill-in eyebrows. It’s formulated to be smudge-proof, helping keep brows in place from day to night. Mixed with Vitamin B5 found in Sunflower Seeds, it also acts as a stimulant for hair growth–giving you full brows.
