When I attended McDonald’s special screening of The Angry Birds Movie with my parents last Saturday, I didn’t quite know what to expect. I only played the mobile game a few times, and I may be one of the very few who never really got hooked to it. I didn’t know the characters, and I never bothered to look the movie up when I got the invite.
So it was a pleasant surprise that I enjoyed The Angry Birds Movie, which gives a colorful back story to the biggest mobile game of all time, in all its child-like simplicity. The movie, which opened in cinemas last May 11, is really made for kids, and half the reason I enjoyed it was the kids’ infectious laughter during all the super cute and silly parts. I just couldn’t help but laugh along with them…and root for Red, hate the pigs, and gush at the adorable little birds. Ang cute talaga!
Light-Up Red. Press the button to activate a red glow and make Red’s eyebrows move.
And I’m happy I can bring home all this cuteness, as the the newest Happy Meal toy collection features the playful characters from The Angry Birds Movie. There are ten Angry Birds Happy Meal toys to collect while supplies last: Light-Up Red, Speedster Chuck, Lasso Pig, and slingshot launchers featuring Red, Bomb (another favorite character), Stella, Terence, Leonard, Cowboy Pig, and Pilot Pig. The slingshot launchers allow you to somehow “physically” play the game beyond your mobile phone!
Speedster Chuck. Pull back Chuck to wind up. When released, he will move slowly at first then suddenly speed up.
In addition to the Happy Meal toys, McDonald’s boosts the Angry Birds fun where it all began: in a mobile gaming app. McDonald’s customers can unlock an exclusive experience in the Angry Birds Action! app by scanning the “BirdCode” printed on the Happy Meal Box.
To activate the secret game in the Angry Birds Action! app, simply open the app, click on the BirdCode-enabled icon, and scan the code. This brings the user to a mini-game with the mission to defend McDonald’s from the green pigs. Players will be rewarded with free power-ups depending on their score.
Lasso Pig. Push the button at the back to make the lasso spin round and round.

McDonald’s also has three Angry Birds-themed desserts offered for a limited time: Red’s Cotton Candy McFlurry (what I like the most among the three), Piggies’ Oreo Matcha McFlurry, and Bomb’s Black Sesame McDip.
You can now get the McDonald’s Angry Birds Happy Meal and desserts in all stores nationwide via McDonald’s front counter, Drive-Thru counter, McDelivery.com.ph, by calling 86-2-36, or ordering through the McDo PH App.
