My boyfriend suffered a bad wound infection recently, so I had to turn to the friendly neighborhood Google and my doctor friends to figure out a way to treat him. Initially I was in a panic because when I asked him if he had any of the wound care essentials at home, it turns out he barely had any and had to leave the house in his bad state to get them (I was back here in Manila and can’t do it for him).

I’m quite sure you have a first aid kit somewhere in your house, but is it equipped with the right wound care essentials that will not only help with healing but also protect you and your family from infection? To spare a lot of you the same ordeal, I decided to list the basics in the gallery below. One brand of antibiotic ointment you can look for is Fucidin, a powerful topical antibacterial that combats Staphy effectively yet is gentle and safe enough to apply directly on sensitive skin and wounds. You can apply it two to three times daily to hasten the healing process if the wound is not covered, but one application is usually enough when the wound has a protective dressing.

Use Fucidin at the same time each day for a steady effect. The average treatment period is seven days, but it’s best to ask your doctor how often you must use it and for how long, as some infections may require longer treatment. Also ask your doctor how much and how thick application should be, depending on the wound.

Fucidin is available in leading Mercury Drug branches nationwide.
