It was a slow process, but I’ve finally accepted that I’m moving to a new city next year, after my wedding in December. I realized that delaying acceptance only delays my planning for how I’ll start over. After the wedding, our next big goals as a couple are to buy our own home and to start a family. But I also have goals for myself. And one of them is to start my own business.

I will always have my blog, and I promise you I will not let this go. My fiancé and I agreed I will have to shuttle between Iloilo and Manila regularly, not only to visit my family, but also so I can continue to attend events, gather material for my blog, and keep my network in Manila.

However, I also want to start something new in Iloilo, and returning to the corporate world full-time is not something I’m eager to do anytime soon, especially since we hope to have kids (yes, plural) in the near future. I want to start something I can manage full-time yet still have a flexible schedule. I want to remain my own boss, just as I am with my blog.

As a life-long fan of non-stop education, I know starting a new business entails having something I know I love and am good at, as well as making the effort to learn something new so I can somewhat ensure my business’ success.

I’m grateful that aspiring entrepreneurs like myself now get free access to business and training tools through the enhanced Globe myBusiness Academy Program, a program for existing or new business owners to learn important tips and business advice from more experienced colleagues and industry experts. Especially useful to the majority of entrepreneurs who are in retail and personal services—owners of retail brands, spas, salons, and the like—the program allows them to gain more insights that will help them stay competitive in the market.

In partnership with Manila Workshops, Globe myBusiness Academy will develop and provide independent business owners free training in the arts, entrepreneurship, health and fitness, personal development, and finance, among others.

Globe myBusiness Senior Advisor Derrick Heng said that those interested in attending future sessions can expect the same diversity in the choice of workshop topics: “There’s more than one way to provide sustainable livelihood. Employment is one avenue, but empowering entrepreneurs is equally effective, perhaps even more so. This program with Manila Workshops is our way of helping those who wish to strike out on their own. With the right training, these budding entrepreneurs can go a long way.”

Apart from workshops, Globe myBusiness will introduce a number of business solutions that can be easily added as a service to postpaid plans. These business solutions were designed with business owners from specific industries in mind.

Personal services establishments can choose from a variety of solutions such as Queuing Solution, a service that allows business owners to better manage store traffic using an automated SMS-based queueing system. Another innovation is the Auto Appointment Reminder that automatically notifies customers of their appointments through SMS. And for those looking for a more efficient way of messaging customers, the Auto SMS Blast Service labels text messages with the sender’s brand name.

Retail shop owners, whether online or a physical store, can also choose from tools that will help in marketing, selling, and improving operational efficiency. Through myWebsite, retailers can set up their brand pages where they have full control of the content, ultimately helping their brand and online presence. For those who are ready to sell products beyond their social media pages, Shopify is the ideal platform to quickly set up their online store and easily manage customer orders. And to monitor the movement of products in real-time, myShopkeeper will be a useful inventory management system.

I’m glad these services are available to me once I start my own business in Iloilo in the near future, whatever that may be. I already have so many ideas, and I’m hoping to refine them further as I attend future Globe myBusiness Academy workshops.
